Community CROPS Permaculture
Anticipating the longevity of our project and its core values Community CROPS is exploring the many approches to agriculture. A contemporary movement within gardening and social communities is "Permaculture."
Combining "Permanent" and "Agriculture", permaculture seeks to develop functional connections within our human environmental landscape that are durable in lifespan and use. A tool of sustanable living, permaculture was developed around 1975 by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren. It has grown in popularity and technique to an institution of education, design and philosophy.
Community CROPS has only a small developed piece of garden space dedicated to permaculture, although in many respects the project as a whole is encompassed within the thought of permaculture. Future plans for CROPS permaculture include vermicomposting, fruit and nut tree development, soil fertility, rainwater catchment systems, and sustained organic gardening. Continued permaculture project developments will be detailed here, so please check back as the 2006 gardening season get under way.
