The Women's Garden
The Women's Garden is worked primarily by the residents of Fresh Start, a local women's shelter. They visit the garden once or twice a week with volunteers and do all the preparation, planting, weeding and harvesting. The women use the produce in their nightly group meals and enjoy having the fresh, nutritious food to cook with. The garden is a good learning experience for some of the residents who have never had a garden before. Others teach the volunteers based on their extensive gardening experience. Neighborhood kids often come to help, especially if they can water the garden.
The Women's Garden is fairly small. It's the back of a long lot, and is at the corner of 28th and U Streets in Lincoln, just behind CycleWorks. The land is privately owned, and its use is generously donated to the project.
